Strange Dawn was dubbed in Britain, and while it has no lipsynch worth
speaking of and occasionally suffers from an overliteral translation, I'd
rate it as a rather good dub despite that. The kind of thing people complain
about the Japanese not knowing what the hell they're doing is more along the
lines of Revolutionary Girl Utena becoming "Ursula's Kiss".
Enoki Films is a good example of why the Japanese should not dub
their own anime. I think they wanted to call KareKano, Tales of
North Side
High.
I suppose that's a better name than "Sword and Sorceress"... (What?
That's what they wanted to call "Slayers".)
the Japanese did to their own anime in an attempt to market it abroad.
The current model works much better, the Japanese get money from non-
Japanese and do not like like idiots at the same time.
If the Japanese did their own English translations, I think the
results would be like the translations on Chinese films, competant but
way too literal.
