So? I still ain't paying 50-100 times the cost of the actual stuff.
("I" in the general public sense). When people either didn't know
what
it actually cost, or could be convinced the actual cost to produce a
record/CD/etc. was some reasonable number, (say, $5.00), paying
$15-20 didn't make them feel ripped off. If you know that they're
paying a quarter or less to make them, you'll be a lot less willing
to pay that much.

The Buffalo News had an article on the remaining local independent
music stores today, and one of the owners made the comment that he's
amazed that people who have no problem paying $5 for a cup of coffee
they'll drink in a couple minutes feel $15 is too much for an album
you may be enjoying for the rest of your life. Music has become
worthless to people.

It's sad that people will pay $5 for a cup of coffee in the first place.

But, in the end, it kind of defies the belief that people won't buy music because they don't want to pay for something. Anyone who will pay $5 for a cup of coffee (all the while, decrying the imperialist, capitalist pig-dogs, of course) ARE willing to pay for what they think is worth it. The only problem is that they can't tell what's worth it. Sorry, I have no idea how to fix that one.
