Hardly. 98 was only marginally better than 95, though I had much
more trouble with it, and the registry seemed to be, if anything,
more unforgiving than 95's. I'd say it was a wash, personally.
More modern, but

Counter Datum: I've supported 95, 98, and millenium in corporate and
user environments. 98, (with a properly clean and minimum install!)
was by far easier to work with from an administrative standpoint.
Better drivers, proper USB support, improved memory utilization and
bus bandwidth management were just the icing on the cake.

I had far more trouble with 98 than 95. And I was probably MORE abusive
with 95. Both of them, I had to re-install every two or three months,
though. XP was the first time I had an instal last over a year.

I consider one of my greater accomplishments was getting my Win98SE to
behave and without crashing left on for weeks if not months at a time. ;)

Actually, there is a compelling program, but it's one keeping me
tethered to XP - AutoCAD. Our engineering department reports that
it's a bit... rough with Vista, currently.

Some things break. Rumour has it, you can get AutoCAD running
properly under Vista if you run it in administrative mode. For many
reasons, this is of course a terrible idea. :-(

I really don't want to have to switch users just to use my software. I had
to do that with Cost Works, last year, because the licenses we got from
RSMeans were cruel and abusive.

I think Vista allows a limited account to run designated programs
in administrative mode (designated by the admin, of course).

Laters. =)
