I'm waiting for SP1. I'll let y'all take it in the chin for me.

You'll have to wait a while. Some pre-beta code is out but the beta
version itself will not be out until late this year. The
ready-for-prime-time version will probably not hit the streets until at
least six months after the beta version appears.

In an earlier post, I said I thought the best operating environment for a
multi-media machine was Windows XP. Although that is my opinion, I have
replaced the Windows XP computer that I used as a media server with a
Windows Vista Ultimate computer. I have encountered problems with Vista
only during stress testing when I was intentionally trying to induce
problems.

That's fine. Until then, there's no pressing need to upgrade, unlike there
was to XP.

NONE WHATSOEVER! GAH. I wish my clients had believed that. :-(

I'll probably get Vista when I have to buy a new laptop. The college of
Engineering requires us to have tablet PCs (even though they don't actually
USE the tablet capablilites). So, if I want to add the Civil degree, I need
to get a new laptop. My desktop, however, will remain XP for some time to
come.

Well if nothing else, you can look forward to the improvements that
Vista has made over XPTablet. The handwriting recognition is greatly
improved, and I found stroke entry to be both more reliable, and less
taxing on the CPU than it had been under XP.

Which isn't to say you won't find other things chewing on the chip,
but at least you wo't have to worry about slow pen input on top of it!

I'm not sure how much of a note taker you are, but I found the tablet
functions invaluable in any course that required me to note formulas.
Entering and lining up symbols and formulas using just the keyboard
was an exercise in futility.
