While I'll admit that what generally counts as 'mainstream' in the
various industries hasn't been turning my crank lately, there are rare
exceptions to the proverbial 'rule'...
http://www.thewotch.comThoroughly recommend. The gaps in that Sunday side story can be a
little annoying, but it's worth the wait!
That's why I mentioned it. ^_^
http://www.melonpool.comNot read either of these before. I may have to investigate!
http://www.supermegatopia.com
I actually found out about Melonpool through, of all things, a
conjoinment club - two of the strip's characters were fused together
while they and the rest of the crew were trapped on a terraformed
asteroid. After reading a few more strips, though, I was hooked. It's
just that well written and drawn.
(Of course, having a robotic pop star certainly helped) ~_^
Supermegatopia, on the other hand, is more of an art gallery with a few
(clever and funny) strips available. Your mileage will vary, of course,
but I found the creator's wit to be more than worth the weekly visit.
One other strip I was going to mention was 'Jack', a dramatic strip with
some (slightly muted) religious overtones but I haven't read *that* in a
while either. ^_^; If you think you'd enjoy it, it'd be best to start at
the beginning just to get a handle on how 'da Rules' work and learn more
about it's titular and supporting characters.

These days, after killing Girly from my regular reads due to it
slinging something nasty onto my system that activated the obligatory
malware alerts, and the various Bleedman titles that I read going on an
extended hiatus, I have been dabbling with Girl Genius
(http://www.girlgeniusonline.com), though obviously this is in print in
places.
Sound like I'll have to check it out. (particularly since I enjoyed 'Buck
Godot' and some of the stories in 'XXXenophile')
And, for the record, some of the measures that advertisers use these days
are why there are plug-ins like 'AdBlock Plus' and 'NoScript' available
for Firefox (and similar measures for other browsers).
You can't be too careful, unfortunatly. 9_9
I was also into Sabrina Online (http://sabrina-online.com)
although, for me, that seems to ave jumped the shark everso slightly.
Well, I'm still enjoying it, of course. ^_^
Would you prefer that the Decepticon figures Sabrina owns try to take
over her apartment or would more cameos of Amy Squirrel and her fiance
suffice? (I don't write the strip. I'm just curious) ^_^;
along with classic shows like Daria, Downtown, Ranma 1/2 and Megas
XLR.
Not seen Downtown, and Ranma became a bit of a drag at one point. Daria
and Megas, yes!
Well, the reason I mentioned Ranma is that I saw a few episodes via a
local anime club and it was more than a little amusing in places.
(Those Jusenkyo pools have some *serious* fanfic potential)
But Downtown is more of a 'slice of life' series - it follows the lives
of its characters and takes you along for the ride. (In fact, I think a
stronger version of this series would be Daniel Clowes' 'Ghost World', a
stunning read in itself)
The characters (Alex, Chaka, Mecca, Fruity, Matt, Goat, Jen, Serena) are
so diverse in their quirks and flaws that you could place them in almost
any situation and it would breed fascination like rabbits. It's probably
why these characters are now a (small and unofficial) part of Megas.
...and they could only serve to revive the suggestion that better
promotion of the various 'oddball' anime series could prove beneficial
to the public at large. (or that I need to read the Anime Primers more
often)
Couldn't hoit! :)
I'll give that a try, then. ~_^;
Here's to the 'cookie cutters' being tossed.
*holds up a stein of root beer*
Yuk! Can't stand the stuff! :6
Well, some brands are tasiter than others.
