My guess would be medical - they just don't work very well with electronic
equipment (even when it's made especially for them to use).

You are correct, sir! He is a medical doctor.

Normally, I don't refer to people with doctorates besides M.D.'s as a
doctor in conversation. Of course, I'll call the person "Doctor
Smith" if I need to refer to them by a title (so instead of using
Mister or Missus) but I'll refer to them as a biologist or chemist or
something along those lines.

Of course, my sister and her coworkers (all medical doctors) seem to
think that only medical doctors should have the title "doctor" used
before their name. This has led to many, MANY arguments over the
years.
