Re: (Somewhat OT) Bittorrent clients

Frankly, I haven't seen enough of a difference between the Apple screens, and my cheap little Envision screen to justify the added expense or the shift to Apple's infuriating OS-X. As with many things Apple, I have to wonder if their "best quality" claim is simply people seeing what they want to see.

I just wish there were more high-def anime to download :)
Hell no! I like being able to fit 26 episodes on a DVD. I also
hate how some fansubbers make them just too big to fit the last episode.

Well, I have 20mbit broadband at my home studio, and I don't care about burning to DVD as I can (and often do) watch directly on my ACD. If I

Does your 20mbit broadband allow you to download from torrents that just aren't being seeded anymore? If so, I think I need to upgrade.

I rarely see 1080i encodes, but I don't look often... or really know where to look. I'm verrrrrry casual about these things :) I rely on my partner to supply me with my fix of Anime from her shop :)

want to watch one of these HD fansub on in the family room, I stream
across our home network to an Xbox 360 (using Connect360) which
happily displays 1080p vids on our Sony Bravia.

Well, I'm glad that you're independantly wealthy, but some of us have to make do with what we have, without scraping the poverty line too deeply.

Now you make it sound like I'm stinking rich :( I'm not. I scraped and saved every penny to build my home studio, student-like living for the last 10 years :s If anyone ever tells you working in the music business is an easy way to make money... *sigh*

QuickTime is fine, just as is Windows Media player, until you give it a weird format that it doesn't understand. I use QuickTime every day, but fansubs and download vids tend to have differing formats, which don't
always playback well. So I use VLC for those.

No, quicktime is NOT just fine. Over half of all .mov files go green within the first five seconds. And this includes files that were in the other half, just a few days or even hours ago. This has happened over several installs, several OSes, and several rebuilds. QuickTime is a mess. It has nothing to do with a weird format.

Must very unlucky then. I've never seen an issue, on Windows or OS X for playback of run-of-the-mill stuff. On some of the larger sites we've done in the past we've usually published in WMV & QT, and I can't say we've been flooded with complaints (some of our band sites have 100,000s of visitors a week). On the other hand I'm not keen on any format that requires such a bloated player (our sites are now 100% flash video).

(why is my sig suddenly double spaced!? Thunderbird sucks).
