I don't do much downloading with BT but thought that some here do more
than
I do and it might be good to ask here.
I have been a fan of Bitspirit. It gives the best download and upload
speeds of any client that I have tried.
Unfortunately I found out that it is installing adware (some call it
malware) Win32.Webdir on my computer. Even if I delete it Bitspirit will
reinstall it when I reboot.
Can anyone recommend a good BT client? I really don't feel like trying a
half dozen programs again.
Thanks.
P.S. the one I won't try is Azearus. I tried it once and the thing kept
eating computer resources. Sometimes it got so bad that I had to reboot
my
computer just to be able to multitask.
I'm very happy with mutorrent:
http://www.utorrent.com/
I use that too, but a lot of BT community are for now giving it
a wait-and-see attitude ever since BT creator Bram Cohen's company
bought it in December, and by deal, utorrent's creator (now advisor)
can no longer improve on it without Cohen's approval.
Cohen by himself is harmless, and he did say he won't ruin
utorrent's rep in the BT community, but Cohen's company also has
a deal with the major studios (like those involved in the **AA and DMCA).
Plus the fact that utorrent is closed source (so who knows what's in it),
so BT sites will be closely scrutinizing every new release from now on
(instead of giving it a quick pass like before,
purely based on utorrent's good rep in the community).
They advise to turn off automatic update on the Pref/Options menu.
Azureus is on the same boat too since their launch of Zudeo,
basically the commercial version based on Azureus 3.0,
also dealing with the major studios and includes DRM.
Zudeo though misidentifies itself as Azureus 3.0
(so BT trackers and users can't tell them apart), and
although Azureus is still open source, it has a large source code,
so it can be difficult to scrutinize all parts.
(Heck, it took a year before it was discovered that Azureus 2.x
was sending back info to Azureus' server without the user knowing
- and it was only noticed because of Zudeo's launch which made
people scrutinize Azureus more, without Azureus' developers telling.
Azureus' developers have since fixed that in a quick update.)
Thus, a couple of the better BT clients are currently in the hot seat.
Hopefully, it doesn't come to what occurs to BitComet,
when many BT sites and users ban it / won't share to it.
I remember being banned from some sites for s while, never realized there
was any problem with Bitcomet, think I solved the problem by going back to a
previous version. Bitcomet is by far my most prefured BT downloader, as it
lets me select from a multiple download if I already have some episodes, It
is very easy to use, lets me download from several places at once without
running separate versions, and I have been able to leave the BT window open
much longer to help share. ^_^
