Well, Liz... I took into consideration that the subject is a grandparent
who sat through all of Muyazaki's production. What else is there to
recommend? The peril of these recommendations is how people start pushing
their preference lists. The alternative is a new instance of the old
guessing game: if the person liked this, this, and this, what else
would she like?

Oh my, I think that is the first time I've been referred to as a
"grandparent" by strangers. Sheesh, ya think it wouldn't be such a shock
after 8 years! I should have introduced myself a little more before all
you good folks made assumptions about me. Heh heh.... I *am* a grandparent,
but I am also 46 years old, a young 46 (well, maybe immature! ) I was
married very young (16) and am still married to the same man. Which makes
me a girl...haha!
That puts you very close to one of the two spikes in the age curve here,
actually. There's a large number of late-teen through mid-twenties
posters here (Ethan Hammond being the most prolific), and a very large
number of late-thirties through mid-forties posters here (Dave Baranyi,
Dave Watson, the Eternal Lost Lurker, and others are prolific posters,
and I fall in this range as well).
I buy almost exclusively horror and fantasy books, although I will read
pretty much anything. I am a gourmand when it comes to books. I like
Stephen King, Tolkien, R. R. Martin, LeGuin, Pratchett, and I even read the
Harry Potter books. Go sue me, I like 'em.
In that case, you simply *must* pick up "R.O.D the TV" if you at all
like "Read or Die", simply to look for all the references... <grin>
Right now I'm reading Steven
Erikson's Tale of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series. I'm on Book 4,
House of Chains. I have all the Sin City graphic novels. (Oh and the
director's cut movie :-)
I own three computers, (one of which I built myself), three printers, two
TV's, two VCR's, two DVD players, one DVR-VHS recorder and a 7.2 MP Casio
digital camera. My laptop has a 17" screen.
I am cursed with dial-up internet, although we have been promised adsl in
the near future.
Bell Canada promised me ADSL "in the near future" six years ago; my
advice is to believe it when you see it.
I cook well, and am a so-so baker.
I would be hard pressed to think of a kitchen gadget I don't own, and use.
We raise lots of garlic in our garden along with fresh herbs for cooking.
I have had my spine fused twice, so don't work anymore (hence all the down
time reading, movies and computers!)
We have a cat named Spyder.
I drink beer, a lot.
I have blonde hair and brown eyes...
Ok, that's too far....
Maybe for a first post, yes... <grin>
