So who do we blame then? It seems like Scott's argument is that
DelRey holds all the fault here. I disagree. Sure, they hired an
adapter. But said adapter has gone above and beyond what many of the
fans here would consider a reasonable adaptation.

Just because he was hired by DelRey to do an adaptation job, doesn't
mean he had to adapt it this badly. :-) He's still responsible for
what he wrote.

FWIW, I enjoy the Negi "adaptation", but I'm an American and as such I
can recognize (understand) and am not terribly offended by american
english slang. I think it'd be a mistake to professionaly release
this same adaptation in the UK, or Singapore, Australia, or any of the
other places throughout the world where english is spoken.

(Anyone out there know if Singapore is using the DelRey translation?)

Canada is a tough spot though. Canada is not America, but it is
physically close enough to have suffered at least some cross border
"cultural pollution". The references and slang shouldn't be too
unfamiliar, but clearly in Dave's case, they're at the least,
offensive.

So here's the million dollar question... Is Dave Watson
representative of the average Canadian manga fan? :-)

Somehow, I think the answer to that question is no. (To the detriment
of most Canadian manga fans.)

Nope! But Negima *is* often perilously close to "smut". Which is why
I like it. :-)
