No, they answered an ad to be on a tv show.
And, anyhow, how is that any different from _American Idol_?
<which in its defense, is called _American IDOL_, not, "The Next Bob
Dylan/Judy Collins/Ect").
And before the Monkees, Mickey Dolenz and Davy Jones were actors, NOT
musicians. That's half the band.
Again, I'm a FAN of the group, I'm just pointing out that the artificiality
of pop is NOT a new thing.

Yes, they did eventually do that.
But they were plenty popular when they were esentially four guys singing
other people's songs while other people played insurments in the
background.

I still haven't seen _Head_.. I'm kinda wonmindering if I should.

Yeah, it does seem more common these days.
And yet the RIAA whines that "piracy" is what's hurting their record sales
(and I've heard that their "declining sales" claim isn't even true...)
