Yes, episode 9 was released on 9/7;
It's only a 640x360 version, though.
It's the student council story.

Thanks! :)

hmmm... is this series aired in HDTV?

Nope.

I think you guys are confused. In Japan,
1) almost *all* tv programs can be seen in HDTV channels
   in limited areas
2) current format of the digital HDTV is 1125i(1080i)
   in MPEG-2 (i.e.1920x1080, about 2M pixels)
3) original and broadcast version can be in different format
4) few HDTV screen/set has full spec HDTV
5) all analog (NTSC) broadcast will cease in six years
6) anime shows are now being made with computers
   and digitally mastered into tapes/disks

So, you can watch Kamich! in an HDTV *now* if you
are lucky.

thanks for the information.

but..hmmm...what i'd really like to know is:
they create kamichu using some computer programs.
then they broadcast it.
and you receive it in HDTV resolution.

but did it trave through the whole 'pipeline' in HDTV resolution?

or is it something like:
-created in high-res
-downscaled to normal-tv-res
-on some tv stations upscaled to hdtv-resolution and aired in hdtv format

?

so what you watch in HDTV, is really HDTV stuff, or just upscaled normal-tv stuff?

i'm asking because in january you wrote that
"
So, you can watch any anime TV show in
HDTV if you live in Tokyo and have a digital terrestrial
broadcast reciever and an HTDV set. But those shows
don't have high resolution, multi channel sound or 16:9
wide screen.
"

so did the situation change?
are there more "real" HDTV anime series now?

thanks,
gabor
.
