Try the same thing with a bow and arrow, which I have done. Even with a
80 pound bow, a bullet still travels a heck of a lot faster than a
arrow. Futhermore, above 80 pounds is in the crossbow range. Even a
bolt doesn't travel as fast as a bullet. But, a bolt does more damage
because it weighs more, even though it's slower.
Furthermore, I'm looking at this from a professional point of view. If
I'm a bodyguard or hitman, wouldn't it make sense for me to practice
with the tools of my trade to better myself in my job? In this case,
firearms and target practice. We see Kirika and Merillie doing just
this at several points in the series. So why not the men from the
Soldats? For an organization which is suggested to be as big as Les
Soldats seems to be, I find it very hard to imagine that all of their
rank and file cannot hit a moving target. Even their so-called 'knights'.
