The Pre-Approved List: These are shows that get (or got, for older
shows) a fair amount of positive discussion in rec.arts.anime.misc or
its predecessors, but aren't yet in the Primer. Does anyone like any
of these shows, or any other shows not yet in the Anime Primer, enough
to write Primer entries for them?
Remember, only write entries for shows you like enough to recommend to
others.
There are some obvious holes in the Primer's coverage - reviews of
these seminal and popular shows will be accepted immediately:
* Cutey Honey
* Doraemon
* Hello Kitty
* Naruto
* Votoms
* Yawara
If you're still looking for suggestions, reviews of any of these would
be smiled upon:
* anything that gets an A-, A, or A+ rating on Dave Baranyi's
quarterly anime review lists, three stars on Manbow Papa's quarterly
anime review lists, or an equivalent grade on someone else's list,
but doesn't yet have a Primer entry
* anime that got "good press" on r.a.a.misc or its predecessors when
the shows were new:
* Barefoot Gen
* Black Cat
* DiGi Charat [any]
* Elf Princess Rane / Fairy Princess Ren
* Golden Boy
* Junkers Come Here
* Legend of Galactic Heroes
* Locke the Superman
* Maria-sama ga Miteru
* Narutaru
* Ouran High School Host Club
* Outlanders
* Paranoia Agent
* Petite Princess Yucie
* Photon
* REC
* Sugar Sugar Rune
* Time Stranger
* Tokyo Mew Mew / Mew Mew Power
* Trouble Chocolate
* Windaria
* xxxHolic TV
* Zegapain
(Yes, I know that five of these already have Primer entries. However,
those entries were inherited from when Steve Pearl maintained the
Primer; they are unattributed and substantially shorter and less
detailed than current entries are. I consider them to be
"placeholders".)
A particularly energetic and knowledgable volunteer is sought to
re-write the entry for Gundam, so that it better reflects the
multiplicity of continuities of that franchise. Splitting the entry
into multiple entries by continuity is acceptable.
A particularly energetic and knowledgable volunteer is sought to
re-write the entries for Tenchi Muyo, so that they better reflect the
multiplicity of continuities of that franchise.
Haruhi Fujioka attends ritzy Ouran High School as a scholarship student, too
poor to purchase the school's uniform. Searching for a quiet place to study,
she happens on the room where the Host Club meets, a club made of six
wealthy bishounen who cater to the whims of the female students. Through a
series of events, she finds herself in debt to the club, working first as a
gopher and then as a host herself. (Not having a really firm gender
identity, Haruhi is at first mistaken for a male.)
Ouran High School Host Club is beautifully and wittily animated, and
possesses a clear ancestor in the form of Revolutionary Girl Utena. Although
many of the episodes are light and frivolous, as Haruhi learns more about
the personal histories of her new friends (and they learn hers), the story
reveals more serious undercurrents.
