Calerpa not doing well

a couple of months ago i bought a bunch of calerpa on a small piece of live
rock and it doesnt seem to be growing any. i have it in the second chamber
of my sump with a single powerglo 14000K tube running 24/7. i did a cutting
and placed it in the main tank but my yellow tang made short work of that.
i see others having to trim their calerpa because its growing like a weed
and taking over the sump.
I'm not so lucky. i have a RIO 1700 return pump so the water flow isnt too
high on a 40G tank but i do have a Aqua medic SL1000 Multi skimmer in the
sumps last chamber.
other algae is flourishing so why isnt this?

I'm tempted to put the MH in the sump chambre to ensure enough light gets to it but is this a good idea, would 14000K be unsuitable for calerpa. ... some calerpa flourished until my yellow tang finally sussed out what it was and made short work of it. ...
