I just picked one of these up and noticed a huge design flaw. The intake
partition is supposed to flow underneath to the filter partition and up
through the filter media and out to the tank.
Instead, even on the lowest intake setting, It spills over the top of the
intake partition into the filter partition, bypassing everything and
straight out to the tank. Yes, with overflows you will see some spillage,
but not the majority of the water, lol. Talk about bypass.
The media basket just doesn't stop if from overflowing, regardless of flow
setting.
I called the parent company, Hagen, which also makes Fluvals and they told
me they're aware of this problem and working on a redesign, but I'm not
holding my breath, lol...
With a little plastic work, basically making a better wall between to two
partitions, I could stop the overflow, but what a pain, lol...
I don't recommend any power filters that use the overflow method anymore.
Rena's new Smartfilter design is far superior, water passes through the
filter, not over it.
