Since I am no software techie which NR would you recommend? I
would need something for a real newbie. Something easy to use and
understand. I tried Hamster and Free Agent (and another I can't
remember the name of - Pegasus?) and either couldn't get connected
to my NSs or couldn't figure out how to send messages, or the sent
messages never showed on the servers. I ended up deleting them.
I found OE the easiest to use. I can filter out a lot of garbage
but can't filter on IP. That's the one thing I wish OE could do.
A local proxy do my filtering? You must be the techie-type. :-)
I find that Xnews is very close to the ideal newsreader. However, you
might try Thunderbird which is a combined email client and newsreader.
It is somewhat easier to configure for the non-techie. Xnews does
require some effort. Hamster can be setup (it is a local proxy) but
agian requiers some effort. OE will not likely ever be fixed. You could
also look at Dialog as a newsreader.
It's easy to google for links. Xnews will offer up an old version,
instead get the test version.
