I've just noticed on my three gold veiltail angels what looks like
small round growths towards the end of the filaments.
The ray of the fin comes most of the way to the end, then this little
ball-like thing then continues to the end.
Any ideas ?
It could be ich, but it sounds like a cyst of some sort... possibly due to
injury or insult or bad genes. P. scalare has been bread selectively
almost as much as the livebearers have. Selective breeding to that degree
often introduces genetic abnormalities or vulnerabilities.
From what you describe it doesn't sound like any sort of obvious parasite.
If it was ich it would appear as tiny salt-like crystals, first on the
fins
and then eventually spreading to the entire fish.
How long have the angels been in your tank?
Tank has been running for two years.
The angels have been in there for the same length of time.
I don't think it's Ich ( touch wood ) as the the other two angels (koi
pearlscale and blushing) don't have it.
Then again, they don't have long flowing fins.
The rest of the residents ( 4 CL, 6 corys, 6 platies, 2 danios, 3 SAE ) are
fine.
Cyst is exactly how I should have described it.
I'll keep watching them.
