Like I said, phonographs are almost as broad a category as
"furniture". Some will never be worth more than firewood.
Others, like treadle machines, bring your car. Not to haul
it away, but to trade. A *nice* car.
Treadle sewing machines? You must be joking
Treadle PHONOGRAPHS. Where did I mention sewing machines?
You mentioned furniture, then "treadle machines" ;~) and thought you
meant sewing machines. I'm so sick
of looking at the damn things ( The sewing machines) that people think
are worth a fortune, the minute I
even see the word treadle my hackles go up ;~)

When Dad first started up in the 1970's he used to make tons of money
exporting the old treadle sewing machines up to the Pacific Islands -
Tonga, Samoa etc. He used to pick them up off the side of the road
during the annual inorganic roadside rubbish collection, sell them,
them freight them up to the islands. The proceeds put me through
private school! Over the last two years we have sold one. And haven't
been offered any others. But down here in New Zealand, most of them
have been altered into decorative tables, especially the Singer brand
tables. Quite desirable still so people are more likely to sell them
online as opposed to selling them to their favourite local "antique
dealer".
They're still in production in India.
In places where they have 'load shedding' the power can be off for three
hours in twelve and tailors need a reliable means of sewing clothes (most
clothes are still hand-made there)

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
