Hi I am wondering if anyone can help me, I have a National Cash
Register, dated I think approx 1960-1970's. It is fawn in colour. My
problem is that the crank handle on it is missing. I am having
problems locating one. Also it runs on power but it continually runs
and sparks are visible when case is taken off. I am hoping that
someone can give me some help with this or possibly head me in the
right direction to get her all up and running again. Any help will be
greatly appreciated :o)

Hi,
I worked for NCR for 40 years, retired 10 yrs. ago. The model # and serial #
should be stamped in the metal strip that holds the coin tray(the flat area
just above the drawer) .
The first two digits of the serial # is a clue to the date it was made. You
have to find an old timer with the book that translates those digits into a
date, on the very early ones these two digits was the year of mfg.. The
model # is the clue to the problem, those machines used a universal motor
and they did spark a lot, probably needs the armature cleaned and may need
new brushes. Do you mean just the motor runs constantly or the machine
cycles continuously? If it's just the motor running then it's probably the
switch contacts welded together, easy fix. If it cycles continuously it's
probably the clutch, lots o' luck.
I would contact NCR local branch and see if any old timers are still around.
