Michigan Deer

Last Nov. the DNR passed a "No feeding or baiting" deer this winter in
Michigan. A hefty fine and or possible jail time if caught. They used
wasting disease as the reason. There was a report that someone had a
single deer they had enclosed from the time they got it and it had this
disease. Through the hunting season there were several reports that this
disease had not been found anywhere in this state. Now that hunting
season is over the DNR is not lifting the ban and is saying they want
the population to decrease in numbers. The deer are this states treasure
and oh by the way hunting season bring`s $5 M each year! I cannot begin
to tell you how many wooded areas are being bulldozed every single day
so that new housing platt`s can be built, most of which have "for sale"
signs in the front yards still. We are seeing deer in places we should
NEVER see them, because we are forcing them from their homes. This year
they added an extra 2 weeks of hunting, and this winter has been the
hardest 1 we`ve had in many years. I have fed the deer in the same
places during the winter for 15 years. I have 100`s of photo`s of these
beauiful creatures and if I saw 1 deer showing symptoms of this disease
I would stop and call the DNR. The average life of a deer (don`t know if
circumtnces elsewhere differ) is 2 years. We kill them with bow`s, gun`s
and car`s, Nature has it`s own way of elimination, not to mention we
have alot of coyote and they have brought more wolf here, and all of us
animal lover`s are thretened with fines and jail if we help them through
this winter. I for 1 never believed this disease was the REAL issue and
I for 1 cannot sit back and watch them starve to death because that is
exactly what they are asking us to do. I have lived here all my life and
have alway`s heard of the deer eating pine needles and tree bark but
have not seen it until now. It is very disturbing to see. Maybe they
will have to take some of that $5M and plant more for next year! Thank
you for allowing me to spout off. One last note...my friends will pool
their $ to pay my bail should I get taken away! Vicki .
