That depends on the newsreader, mine prefers Face over X-Face

You mean it'll insert at most one of X-Face and Face header lines
into a post it's preparing, omitting the X-Face line if a Face line
is available?
Just checked the code again, no when posting and when both are available both will be posted.
Dank U wal, Pieter, good to know. European friends or acquaintances
have urged MesNews upon me, and I've resisted ... perhaps wrongly.
I think, as with (m)any other newsreader, if you can get used to it, it will do what you want it to do.
You evidently prefer XanaNews? Care to share your reasons?
Well it was once (> 10 years ago) recommended by a friend, I was using MSOE back then.
These day I'm little biased since I'm also maintaining the current version ;-)
What I really like:
- "batches" - a batch is something you can setup to periodically
retrieve messages from specific servers/newsgroups.
- no pop-ups when any goes wrong, it will just retry again later.
- it can handle most (all) encodings out there (base64, yenc, etc).
- It is easy to see if there are any replies to one of my posts.
For the rest there are lot of things that I just got used to it and I'm not sure if all of what I need is present in other newsreaders these days.
For instance whenever I start TB, I'm always struggling with (the
default way of) how it threads messages, but a die-hard TB-user will
probably feel the same when he/she first uses XanaNews.
There are lot of things you can change/setup in XanaNews, this may also
make it a little harder to use when you're new to it.
Couple of notes:
- Although you can reply by email, it is not an email client.
- Although it can handle binaries, it is not really suited for handling
large amount of headers or downloading HD movies as found on some of
the binaries groups.
100-200K posts is OK, I do test up to 2-5M headers, just don't
expect it to handle millions and millions of headers.
