I think that you have "hit the nail on the head" here, Whiskers.

I took a screenshot of the posting profile dialog, in its
smallest "unmaximised" size it measures 715 x 599 pixels.
Width-wise its OK for your screen but the height is obviously a
problem with drawing that dialog. I cannot physically make this
dialog smaller than the above mentioned pixels.

But, if your posting profile is in an "unmaximised" condition it
should be able to 'grow' beyond the limitations of the 480 pixel
height of your screen. Have you tried to toggle the "maximise"
"unmaximise" window setting?

The response I got in the web forum, is that the 'Matchbox' window
manager is the source of my problem with Pan. Matchbox does
indeed 'force' everything to fill the screen, but the way it does
that with large dialogue boxes breaks them. The suggestion is to
use a different window manager; the same person who compiled Pan
for the CnMbook also offers JWM and Fluxbox, so I'm in for some
more playing :))

"It ain't over until the bloatware floats" or with words to that
effect ;-)

That explains the fubar dialog then. Glad to hear you have more options
to play with too, Whiskers.

No slrn for CnMbook on the horizon?
