[Dialog] Help getting started

Before I get flammed for posting here, this is straight from the Dialog web

You can expect that the author of the software regularly reviews the
articles posted in these groups, though he might not be able to answer all
of them himself, chances are excellent that other users can help you there.
If you post a Dialog specific article in a newsgroup, you should include
the name of the program in brackets in the subject, e.g. "Subject: [Dialog]
How to score my own postings?".

1. How can I filter down to groups I am interested in while subscribing. I
currently am having to scroll down through the many thousands of groups in
the "all" tab.
2. I see many "strange" characters in the headers. I assume there is
someway to configure Dialog to convert them into something useful.
And yes I have googled, have looked in Dialog's help, looked through all
the pull downs, etc. If you didn't want to help someone out with Dialog,
you shouldn't have openned this thread. So if you are not interested in
helping, please close the thread and move on :-)
