Off the subject, I might also point out that there are plenty of
free newsreaders available....

Any suggestions for one that works under Windows XP and handles
yEnc seamlessly?

I'm using Xnews which I prefer, there will be other suggestions. You
might try out several and see which you prefer.

I've installed Xnews and it seems quite nice.

It is (for a Windows newsreader) <EG>. It runs quite nicely in Wine
on my Linux machines, however. I fire it up every now and then, but
I pretty much stick to slrn.

If you're a heavy user of Usenet you might prefer one with scoring.

I confess I don't even know what scoring is.

Read Scoring.txt in your XNews folder for a quick intro. It's
a really powerful method of filtering.

As for yEnc, I know of no newsreader that won't handle it,

I don't think this (= Netscape 4.8) does!

I don't you coild consider Netscape a *real* newsreader. But
maybe that is just me.
