You could try vim, which has inline spell checking since version 7.0

Thanks, Thomas. I just installed vim, and I like the way it works,
including the inline spell checker. I hope this doesn't pose the problems
the MS Word has, although since it basically doesn't use it's own special
characters or do any formatting. I think it will make a good replacement.
