I never understood it myself, to me the Xnews editor works fine
with the addition of a spell checker but there are those who want
to use external editors and Word works well except for problems
such as described above. It does include a spell checker,
grammar checker, etc. and will compose in HTML for those who
really enjoy being flamed mercilessly for every post they
make..... <G>

What spell checkers can be used with Xnews? Do any of them
integrate and provide spell checking while composing the message,
or do they require a second pass through the message? It's the
latter that I want to avoid.

I don't like or use an in line spell checker as they seriously slow
composing, I use Aspell which allows me to spell check (or not!) after
composing. It takes only one mouse click to start and only one
keystroke to correct misspellings (if any) and it closes it's self when
done.

There are in line spell checkers which work with Xnews I believe.

You can use Google Groups to search this group for all the discussions
about spell checkers along with instructions on how to set up Aspell in
Xnews, I'd give it a try you might find it's much easier than having to
go back and correct each misspelling as it happens....

Since MS Word's spell checking is concurrent with composing the
message, that's why I chose it.

It seems to me to be very difficult to use, I tried it but abandoned it
in favor of adding a spell checker to the Xnews editor.

Thanks!

Actually, I did try Aspell, but I don't like the "batch" processing of
spell check.

I use MS Word a great deal on a daily basis at work. I'm quite comfortable
with its in-line spell check feature. If I don't find another editor with
a similar feature, I'll probably just stay with MS Word.
