Well my friend, this is all getting just a little too complex for my
poor
simple mind. Yes, you answered the question, and yes I am grateful for
that.
If my slight rankling at being treated as though I am some kind of
moron
almost beneath your dignity to bother replying to, represents having a
chip
on my shoulder, then sobeit. And why is having an ntl address any kind
of
problem ? No one else can come close to their broadband speed, which is
why
I use them.

No one treated you as a moron. I merely waited to see if you
entered, or left, a pattern we have seen here before. In another
group ntlworld is the source of many clueless posters who don't
know where they are and can't find their way back. That patttern
didn't develop either.

You left the drive-by pattern, you left the troll pattern, but
then you seem to have developed the unstable shoulder-chip
pattern.

I can't imagine why you felt that I even *might* be any kind of troll.
My
question was not couched in any way that would give the slightest
indication
that I was, and as you are clearly a lot cleverer than I with Usenet, I
am
sure that you were able to see that the address that my post was made
from,
was completely valid, fully traceable back thru the servers and
gateways,
and not disguised in any way.

Asking about Xnews, but never demonstrating that you actually use
it is part of a known troll pattern in these parts.

I don't want to fall out with you, or anyone else on this group, but
sometimes, I really do wonder where people get off on these strange
superiority trips ...

Well, having someone prove he isn't a moron by showing that he is
an *** with a chip on his shoulder /is/ a unique approach.

Ah. So if I have a car, but ride to the shops on a bike, I am
demonstrating
that I can't drive. Neat reasoning. If someone called Smith is proven to
be
a murderer, all people called Smith are probably murderers. And so on.
Your
logic has a certain merit but only, I fear, to yourself and your chums.
Why,
for Christ sakes, would I ask a perfectly reasonable question about a
piece
of software that I use, just to try and wind the group up ? If that's
what
trolls on here do, then this must be a very strange group.

Read for comprehension. If you walk into a public forum with a
gun should I assume you are a police officer? a thief? from
Texas? or should I watch for another sign? I watched for another
sign and determined that you are not a troll or drive-by.

Are you perchance from across the pond? I notice, now that you have
resorted
to name-calling, that you spell arsehole in that strange American way
that
indicates a hole in some kind of donkey.

Ah yes, we don't speak The Queen's English because we have no
Queen. What of it, mate?

Since we have descended to that level, let me just say that your
continuous
self-association with William of Ockham, presumably because you think of
him
as some great logical thinker on a par with yourself, and your love of
sticking latin quotes on the end of everything you write, is pretentious
in
the extreme, as is your insertion of 'clever' little phrases into the
middle
of your sign-off.

You do seem to have problems with sigs and internyms, not just
comprehension.

I'm sorry that it has come to this. I came to the group humbly, to ask
what
I thought was a sensible question, in a perfectly pleasant and
inoffensive
way. I have then been picked on in what I consider to be a totally
unwarranted way, given some of the other questions that get posted here,
to
the point where for taking the trouble to try to defend my position, I
have
been quite wrongly accused of having a chip on my shoulder, and accused
of
being an arsehole.

You were not picked on. Nor were you treated with unwarranted
deference. Is that your problem?

Perhaps you should take a look in a mirror, my friend, and do a serious
evaluation of the sad individual you see staring back at yourself ...

I have no problem shaving in the morning.

You know what ? I'm done with this. No wonder there is little activity on
this group. I came, I got what I wanted, as well as some stuff that I
didn't, and now I am going to leave you, and your army of loyal little sock
puppets, to continue to contemplate your own navels, as William of Ockham
did. The fact that you are in fact from one of our colonies, explains a lot.
As for all the W of O stuff, do you even know where Ockham is ? Do you
actually know where England is, for that matter ?

You can close off the thread now, print it out, and file it under "Ones I've
won", along with all the others you no doubt have. God, I loath people who
sit in front of their computers, endlessly spouting their pretentious drivel
in a way that they believe makes them look superior to all their chums,
instead of the saddos that they actually are.

Good day to you all, gentlemen, and I use that word in the loosest way
possible ...

Arfa
