This is where you are supposed to describe your normal network
connectivity.

Uh ... Usually connects just fine.
Since, as described, a straight cable connection to my ethernet card in my
main computer still does not produce a connection, I have a hard time
seeing it as a network issue.

Xnews pops up the error box "Can't create new socket" when I run it.
Not a router issue as I have tried bypassing the router with the same
results.

I see windows, I see a router and a LAN.

My local area connection is yellow flagged and has 'limited or no
conectivity'.
It says "you might not be able to access the internet or some network
resources. this problem occured because the network did not assign a
network address to the computer'.

Anyone know how to go about diagnosing something like this ?

I would rebuild my network with both the main box & the wireless one to
the router. Shutdown/powerdown the connectivity modem (cable or
whatever), the router, and the boxes - then power them back up in the
order: modem to the greenlights, then router observing its diagnostic
lights, then mainbox, then LTbox.

If everything is good but the mainbox IP lease (again) then start the
diagnostics on that -- but the powerdown/up of the router may have
straightened out its IP lease situation.

i guess I should have added that i have already tried multiple power
cycles, no joy
