Re: [Xnews] Won't post followup with quoted text, or at all sometimes.

At first I though that this was the fault of the giganews server but it
does not matter what server I use, the results are the same. Next I
tried posting the same followup through google groups and it goes right

Yeah yeah yeah, had no choice but to use the google groups in order to
get my post out. Just shoot me and get it over with then. :P

I know.

But what the heck?

[KA-POW!]

I don't get an offer like just every day. :)

Oh God Dammit! Same thing with this post! Posting, done, waiting for
confirmation, just sit forever! I have to post this with slrn then I
guess. Great. Is this Xnews broken or what?

But wait. That wasn't a reply. You said it only happened with replies,
dinnit you?

Dude, there was three fucking gigabytes of *** in my xnews directory,
that is actually how much crap had gotten into the data folder, er
directory. Dam MS has me calling the fricking things "folders" now! I

:) I do that, too. Some things are so pervasive it's hard to avoid them.

also had that dreaded "'$"A' is not a valid integer value." error
whenever I tried to close the setup box in Xnews. I could not save
anything in the settings anymore because of that. I found out what was
causing that on a google search...

I noticed that I started receiving authentication failures when
tryin go forward messages by email, so I deleted the userid &
password from xnews.ini, reset them through the config dialog and
all is well.

Hmmmm!

So I opened xnews.ini and took out the *** in these fields and saved
the file, had to do this with xnews closed though...

SMTPUserName=
SMTPPasswd=

Sure enough, no more error and I could put my mail server user name and
password back in with the setup box and it works now. I am getting a
little chatty here because I am not going to trim the quoted text or
anything and just see if this post goes up or not. This is a new Xnews
install in a new directory. I reused my xnews.ini and my score.ini
files. I could not bear to part with them, oh, and my sig too. Well,
here goes nothing. Let's see if it posts now...

...fingers crossed.

...***! Same *** even with a new install ack! I had to post this with
slrn, posting, done, waiting on confirmation, stopped. Dammit! Okay,
what did I save from the old install here? xnews.ini, servers.ini (That
one stopped me from having to enter all my server and password crap.),
score.ini, and sig.txt, that's it, that's all I saved. What could be
causing this?!! I swear I am going to throw this thing right out the
jalousie windows any minute here, grrrrrrrrr!

Damn. I can relate to your frustration. Wish that helped.

I am really pissed and am going to bed. Somebody *please* help sort this
out for me, will ya? Oh God, goodnight all. <sob!>

Don't jump! Don't jump!

Have you messed with you firewall lately? I just mentioned in a post to
The Mysterious XS11E that I get what you describe if I try to post with
Xnews from my buddy's connection with Kerio running. I've looked and
looked and can't figure out why my installation of Kerio would give me
eternal "waiting for confirmation" holds there when it doesn't from *my*
connection. Can you disable yours just long enough to try a post or two?
