Hiya All.
I keep coming back to slrn and this time I've got it to fit a large number
of my requirements, but I'm still lacking on a couple of things:
Unicode: it seems to send Unicode characters ok, and display them
sometimes, but as it doesn't allow setting of the charset to utf-8 it won't
display on other readers. Is there a work-around? (as S-Lang doesn't support
Unicode I somehow doubt it, but thought I'd ask anyway).
S-Lang 2 supports Unicode. Perhaps the version of slrn you're using is
compiled against S-Lang 1.
Unfortunately I don't know of a completely satisfactory solution for
*all* Unicode problems other than upgrading to the latest S-Lang
release and the current SVN version of slrn.
Header list display: I can change between view options with Esc-a but it
won't give me the option I desire nor does it seem to remember between
sessions. Scoring isn't all that important (I'm not really a plonker ;) )but
I'd like Author, Subject, Date/TIME to be shown. I can get the date but not
the time. Is there an option in the config I can set for a custom view? I
have looked through the manual but can't find anything relevant.
To set options for the header display, see
<http://slrn.org/manual/slrn-manual-5.html#header_display_format>
To set the date (and time) format, see
<http://slrn.org/manual/slrn-manual-6.html#ss6.75>
X-Face: Now I know slrn can't *display* an X-Face
There's a script called "slrnface" that may be able to display X-Faces
in an X terminal emulator. I haven't used it myself.
but I'd like to send one
as a custom header. The trouble is, there's a " in the field which truncates
the image and renders it garbage. Any workaround?
Try escaping the double quote: \".
There may be other characters that need to be escaped too. Compare the
X-Face string you want to use with the one slrn actually sends, and
add slashes at the points where things seem to be wrong.
Thread view: Is there any way to show a whole thread if there are any
unread messages in that thread? I know I can Esc-p to find the parent
article but sometimes that's not adequate.
ESC 1 Ctrl-P finds children of the selected article.
<http://slrn.org/manual/slrn-manual-7.html#akey_get_children_headers>
ESC 1 ESC P reconstructs the whole thread.
<http://slrn.org/manual/slrn-manual-7.html#akey_get_parent_header>
Both of these require the server to support the XPAT extension.
