It's not happening here. The times Dialog does crash here I get the
window with info and asking to continue or exit.
The main news server I usually use is news.individual.net (NIN), which
does a pretty good job of filtering sporge and spam in text groups. I
have in the past used Dialog's 'almost virtual groups' by using action
rules to move articles from more than one (good text) news servers to
'merge' the feeds into one group, and more recently have also
occasionally tried using some news server(s) that do not filter sporge
and spam to see how much there is.
Is there anything in the Dialog or Windows (Dr Watson) logs that tell
you anything? The log level in Dialog can be changed and the logs are
stored in the log folder of the Dialog program folder.
Have you tried other news servers with this group (subscribing to this
group with another server), or without filters (backup filters/cut and
paste all filters into a text document to clear), or without running
scripts? Do purge settings make a difference? Another thing to try is
put this group and another non-problem group into a category, with
this group not being the first/top-most, and with the category
selected use the "Get new headers in subscribed groups/categorised
groups" command/button.
Finally saw something in the log. All the garbage in this group was causing
my scoring to work overtime and die. I removed all scoring and it worked.
So now I gotta rethink my scoring.
Thanks.
Mike
