What all this boils down to is that I don't like messing around with the
mouse and its cursor, but for one thing, I have to, and I consider it a
major annoyance.
Confirmed keyboard gymnasts should pray to the Rodent Ghods to not
gnaw on their knuckles or mend their minds.

Actually, I've got a touchpad, which is worse. It's big,
hyper-sensitive (despite the Control Panel setting) and right between my
hands, and unless I disable it (which was easy on my last laptop, but
hard on this one), it's always mistaking accidental touches for
commands. Even when I have it turned off, the "mouse cursor" does
things I don't want.

On one laptop I used, I resorted to taping a piece of thick card over the
wretched touchpad. I'd like to meet whoever it was who decreed that
touchpads on laptops should be placed in precisely the worst possible
position. (The one I'm using now has a push-button to toggle the touchpad
on or off; a useful solution to a problem that shouldn't exist in the
first place).

Yes, I had that on my last laptop (a refurbished Compaq Presario), but
this one (a bargain Gateway with XP Media Edition) doesn't have such a
button. I tried to implement it with AutoHotKey (a great program!), but
gave up when I realized it wouldn't be as easy as I'd hoped.
