But the sporging is getting worse, so I'm looking for a way to filter
it out. I can't filter/killfile with Google Groups, so I need to
find another way to access usenet. I can't use one of the
conventional newsreaders, like Agent, because they require an ISP
account.
I haven't found much. I tried news.interbulletin.com but it doesn't
seem to have any filtering capability.
I'd gladly pay a few dollars a month for a service not tied to a
particular ISP but works everywhere, coffee shops, the public library
etc. Looking for suggestions or advice.
See 'Feed Services' and 'Public News Servers' at
<http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Usenet/>. I can recommend Individual.net
which charges only 10 Euros a year <http://www.individual.net/>.
Datemas.de is a well-established free service <http://news.datemas.de/> -
their filtering out of garbage is rather less efficient than that achieved
by Individual.net.
You do not need an ISP account to use any news-reader, as far as I'm
aware; just an internet connection and an account with a News Service
Provider (NSP).
I wonder how many Biff's Donuts joints have everything but web browsing
blocked, since most of the kidz today probably aren't doing anything but
webmail and web browsing. You know...the web "is" the Internet, and all?
