I don't know, but couldn't it be that the OP's problem is not that he
doesn't have *Internet access* - because he obviously *has* -, but that
he can't use *NNTP* or/and *port 119* via that Internet access?
Note that he said "I have to use the wi-fi at libraries, cafes and the
like.". I have never used such facilities, but I could well imagine that
they only allow HTTP[S], POP and SMTP (via the default ports).
P.S. XS11E please take note! :-)
Perhaps the OP will find the way back here and enlighten us. He doesn't
actually say whether or not he's tried to access eg aioe or readfreenews.
