Well I have not
installed any special font, just whatever Slackware 12 installs by
default + Microsoft 'font-pack' + Open Office. But I did change
locale:

andrew@ilium~$ locale
LANG=en_AU.utf8
[...]
LC_ALL=
That's identical to what I have. What $TERM you using?

xterm (emulation) via xfce Terminal. Mind you I appear to have real
xterm installed as well as rxvt so I shall have a look using these.

Don't waste too much time on it on my behalf. I won't get a
chance to look at it for another couple of hours. Thanks though.
