1. new laptop with window's Vista Home pre-installed
2. copied xnews from old to new
3. getting error message- invalid expiration date "2008-05-10" at
line line 44
4. xnews will run with no apparent ill-effects after closing
the error message

I have tried searching with broad and narrow criteria such as
including the error message with different combinations of the OS
and Xnews with little success or luck. It's either to above what
I'm capable of understanding or not related directly enough to help
me enough.

Question: if there is a solution, what is it, or, if at all
possible, can someone please help me with solving this annoyance.

Any help will most certainly be appreciated.

I've seen this problem before. It's due to a small bug in the way
Xnews handles dates. "Line 44" probably refers to line 44 in the file
"score.ini". If you ever add to your scorefile using the
"Article->Add to Score File"
method, and set an "Expires in xxx" days option, then Xnews places an
"Expires" date line in the score.ini file. The problem is that it uses
the current date format that is in effect when you do this. If you
ever change the date format from, say 10/30/2007 to 2007/10/30 or 10-
30-2007 (or maybe change your OS), then Xnews gets confused when it
later tries to read the date after the change.

The solution is either to go into the score.ini file with a text
editor and remove that line or change the date to the format you
currently use as a default in your OS.

HTH,
John

Very educational and eye-opening, thanks.
I'll pass this on to my sister.
