I've seen this problem before. It's due to a small bug in the
way Xnews handles dates. "Line 44" probably refers to line 44
in the file "score.ini". If you ever add to your scorefile
using the
"Article->Add to Score File"
method, and set an "Expires in xxx" days option, then Xnews
places an "Expires" date line in the score.ini file. The
problem is that it uses the current date format that is in
effect when you do this. If you ever change the date format
from, say 10/30/2007 to 2007/10/30 or 10- 30-2007 (or maybe
change your OS), then Xnews gets confused when it later tries
to read the date after the change.
The solution is either to go into the score.ini file with a
text editor and remove that line or change the date to the
format you currently use as a default in your OS.
You are so right, John-
I guess I have been enjoying Xnews for so long thinking I knew
everything I needed to know, I forgot that "invalid <???> at line
<???>" had something to do with the score file. Thank you so very
much for the nudge in the right direction and your prompt response.
