Sometimes my main news source will only be
missing one or two parts of a large multi-
part binary. Is there some way to auto-
matically get Xnews to try downloading JUST
THOSE MISSING PARTS from an alternate,
limited-download server? Does someone have
an elegant technique for doing it manually?
i.e., my main news server might show 20 RAR
files with 201 parts in each file. One file
might show only 196 of 201 parts available.
I want to download only the five missing
parts from the limited-download server, not
the whole 201 part RAR file that's corrupted.
This may not be elegant, but it works for me:
1. Create a queue folder (click on Folder from the toolbar, select New,
then give name to folder, like Download.)
2. Transfer the incomplete RAR file to the queue.
3. Pull the headers from the same group on your alternate server to see
if the part you need is complete.
4. If so, expand the RAR and select only those parts that are missing.
5. Transfer them to the queue folder. (Now the RAR in the queue folder
will be complete and should change servers for only the missing parts.)
6. Highlight and select F4 to decode.
You can also just select the whole complete RAR and transfer it to the
queue file. It will be merged with the incomplete one. But make sure you
select which server to use as the primary. It will also automatically
switch to the alternate, but I've had problems where it might not switch
back, which is why I suggest only moving the parts that are missing.
The trouble is usually that if the RAR is incomplete on one server it is
likely to be incomplete on others.
