True, I am just basing my guess on the amazing amount of software
available in the 'full' install with kde. I use xfce myself as I find
that it is less intrusive that kde: no bouncing icons for starters:-)

Same here (Xfce). I was always a Gnome user until it was dropped, and
have now gotten quite fond of Xfce. KDE doesn't get installed.

I see your point, but there's a lot more to customizing (and using) a
distro than changing the run level. I'd bet that almost all Slackers
*don't* change the default runlevel, with good reason.

Although we are drifting wildly OT here can I ask why? After setting up
xorg.conf / sound / networking etc running adduser for myself and making
sure it worked _I_ changed the runlevel. A serious question, I am
genuinely curious.

Well, because *someday* the GUI bootup will fail, and it can be harder to
fix it that way. Yes, I know you can change the bootup flags to just go
to runlevel 3, but it just seems "cleaner" to boot to text mode and run
startx. Another (minor) reason for me is that I like to watch the boot
process messages go by on the screen, if I happen to be sitting there.

PS Dan C: I hope you appreciate that I have altered my sig especially
for you :-)

Ummm. Since I don't know what it looked like before, I'm not sure I
can appreciate it in it's altered form. Nothing terribly impressive,
in any case.

I was referring to a recent tussle on alt.os.linus.slackware where you
dared you protagonist to post uname -a to _prove_ he was running
slackware. Caught my attention :-)

Hehe, yeah I remember. Hard to keep up with the trolls over there.
