Re: Newsreader suggestions

I've been using Gravity for a long time (currently using 2.70b), and
with a move to Vista, am looking at possibly moving to a newer,
supported, newsreader.

What I am looking for:
Vista compatible.
A rule that can display something like 'Unread with Threads'. In other
words, old messages with no new replies will not show. Old messages with
new replies will list the ENTIRE thread. And, of course, all new
messages/replies listed.
Mostly text group use. Binaries are not a big deal.
Should work nicely with Firefox/Thunderbird for browsing/e-mail links.

I should add that Gravity is working fine. It just 'bings' whenever I
click on a newsgroup or message. I found out that Vista's sound mixer
can set volumes PER PROGRAM. So, with Gravity open, I click the speaker
icon, open up the mixer, then turned down the volume for Gravity. No
more 'bing'!

I did try using Thunderbird as a newsreader when it first came out. I
don't know if FF2 is any better, but I didn't care for it all that much.

I did most of my newsreading in the far past (Windows-wise) using
Netscape 4.0. That started getting flakey (it would corrupt databases,
forcing me to reload a newsgroup, which was slow on the dial-up I had at
the time), IE was becomming so dominant that many websites didn't work
properly with Netscape. I tried several alternates, and ended up with
Gravity. I even paid for it back then. I have it set up similar to the
way Netscape was: Full-width top window with the From field, threaded by
subject, and the various subjects and dates. Below is two windows. Left
is the newsgroup list, and the right is the selected post to read. The
'Unread with threads' was a filter I created, based on the one from
Netscape.

I've been reading Usenet for 20+ years. I used to read using rn (I think
that was it) through some Unix systems. I even ran a Waffle-based BBS in
the early 90's.
