Pretty sure when you "make install" slang there is a message at
the end of it warning that on some linux systems you may also
have to run ldconfig. I was about to suggest this and John beat
me to it.
Okay, I seem to have ldconfig and I just ran it.
After you (attempted to) compile slrn the first time but got those
errors, then ran 'ldconfig', did you run 'make clean'? You need
to do this.
Doing some stuff Thomas W outlined, I now have the new slrn installed
and using slang2. It runs. I'm posting from it.
Oh that's excellent! I'm glad you persisted.
Your v2-for-slang2
whois macro is working (except on your posts).
Note I have updated the macro to accomodate pagers other than
'less'. See my sig. Sim for view_manuals.sl. I stuck with the
slang1 error function for wider compatibility, but by all means
the one you are using is not that different.
BTW I have installed 'most' from John's applications page after
being reminded about it from one of your posts. (I had tried it
in the past but went back to 'less' - actually I've been using
'less.sh' the vim wrapper script.)
I like it. Think I'll persist with it for a bit. I'm using it
as $PAGER and $MANPAGER.
Do I still need to do this fix?
No no - don't do anything if it's working now! ;)
I feel bad that I hadn't had time to "stick with you" through
this to get it sorted, but I'm glad John and Thomas were there to
help. They're more knowledgeable than me, of course.
Go back to the slrn source dir, and try this:
$ make clean
$ ./configure --with-those-options...
Didn't need to use any options; this time defaults worked.
Good good.
$ make
$ sudo make install
Are you guys saying that that fancy version of slrn should be able to
find slang2 and therefore install, now? (I ask because it takes some
work renaming files from my current slrn so that they're safe from being
stepped on by a new installation. Last night or whenever I tried to
stall the fancy slrn I had to make those changes and then turn around
and revert them all so that I could get back to running this version.
This version of slrn is compiled with slang2.
As, apparently, is mine.
Can I get a "Whoop Whoop!"?
