[slrn] What is the difference between using xterm and regular 'term'?

Greetings,
There have been several threads in here over the past few days which
mention using xterm and then invoking slrn. It was my understanding
that by doing so, one could see an "XFace" due to the graphical nature
of the window. I am now using xterm and slrn within it, and I nothing
that would not be present from a regular terminal invocation.
Furthermore, there is no way that I have to copy and paste within xterm
whereas with a normal terminal, I could simply "Edit->Copy" and
"Edit-Paste". That functionality seems to be missing in xterm, unless
there is a configuration setting I am missing. I suppose I could google
and see what it tells me.
