As I enter the Username in the setup screen of Xnews, I get a
persistent popup saying the $[]0 is not a valid integer value. (I'm
entering the $[]0 as an approximation of what the popup says.)
I've found that changing Xnews config values through the config
dialog sometimes corrupts the SMTP authentication fields
"SMTPUserName" and "SMTPPasswd", which produces that diagnostic.
Using a text editor, clear the values from those fields and reset
them through the GUI.
