I posted a while back about random crashes that I have been having
with Xnews. I have further narrowed it down. It only occurs when
using remote desktop and displaying jpg images. When using Xnews
directly on the desktop, I never see the crashes.

Any ideas? Is it likely that Microsoft uses a different graphics
library when doing remote desktop, and this has a bug that the
regular library does not? bad return code, something like that?

Xnews has an internal display mechanism for single-part jpg files.
This might be what's causing you problems. Personally, I have never
liked it much so I've disabled it. Try adding the line:
Jpeg=0
to the [Display] section of Xnews.ini. You can then enable an external
viewer by adding ".JPG" in the "Automatically save attachments of these
types" and "Automatically Launch ..." in the Files tab of Xnew's setup
screen. You will then have to delete the file after viewing if desired
but that's not too much of a problem. I use Irfanview to view the
jpegs and simply hitting the Del key while viewing will delete the
file.
