FWIW, I use such 'block-lists' *selectively*, i.e. only in groups/
hierarchies where there's an actual problem. For example, I use
them
in
news.admin.net-abuse.usenet, which is infested with
trolls/kooks/etc., but not in this group.

Same goes for me, Frank.

I have similar policies for (not) filtering Google Groups postings
and
for other filtering rules.

ditto.

Frank does have a novel idea there. I haven't quite decided what I
like better though...

Filtering *all* of Google Groups, and then merely double-clicking a
Reference header if I for some ungodly reason actually want to see the
Google Grouper's post.

That's essentially what I do. When I want to see a GG post (usually to
put it on my knuckleheads page at blinkynet) here, with slrn, I hit
Esc-p to make it visible. The better news clients make it easy to go up
a notch in the thread. With Xnews, if it's the parent to what you're
reading, there's a button to go to it up on the menu above the message
pane. Arrow with a nearly circular shaft.

Killing all posts from Google Groups.
Except in Thunderbird, which can't filter that well.
