That would, however, be a superficial comment based on an incorrect
idea of how Usenet works. An invalid address in From does not mean
that the poster is anonymous, and a valid address does not mean that
the poster either has a working e-mail address or is willing to be
held accountable for what he writes.

The most obvious reason for a munged address in From is to defeat the
address harvesters. It is common for people doing this to explain in
their sig how to contact them.

Contrariwise, it is trivial to provide a valid address that does not
belong to the poster. That form of abuse is not uncommon.
