That's a different kettle of fish. I would certainly agree that the
info is useful. I would also agree that it would be good in
news.software.readers. However, the thread started in here.

Happens all the time. Hence me suggesting it should be now shovelled to
where it belongs. Where there are real experts who can help and hang out
in those NGs to do just that.

I agree completely that the most experienced slrn users are to be
found on news.software.readers, although many in fact read _both_
newsgroups. But I disagree that because of this a _detailed_
discussion of software such as slrn cannot take place here. I cannot
think of a better or more supportive starting place for a relatively

You can not think of a better place to discuss slrn than the Ubuntu help
group? I can. news.software.readers.

complex piece of software. And if the aolu NG acquires some strengths
in the use and support of software such as slrn I think this is
something to be applauded and supported.

When it is Ubuntu specific then fine. When it is not, no. Where does it
end? Shall I bring all gnus specifics or emacs specifics here too? What
about discussions on procmail, sendmail, postfix and exim4? Do they
belong here too?

Sure. And if you can't get the answers you want, try the other groups...

Of course, I realise you might consider me being "negative" because its
kind of your thread. But the facts are simple enough to weigh up : this
is a Ubuntu NG and slrn is not Ubuntu specific. There are better people
to help in the correct NG.

Absolutely, but there are plenty of people here that can help, and they tend
to be more friendly and supportive than most...

And besides, which app IS Ubuntu specific? Off the top of my head, I cannot
think of a single one. Might as well just disband this group...

One other thing that puzzles me. Am I right in thinking that you feel
that because we aren't archived then we're better of not posting in
here at all?

Not at all. I just think it belongs in the correct NG as soon as any
Ubuntu specifics are covered.

If only Usenet were quite that neat!i

It just means moving or transferring this thread to the correct
NG. Where, experts can correct any unnecessary mistakes and common
misunderstandings.

Crosspost & Followup-To: news.software.readers

I thought you just said that this was a bad idea?
