Hi Folx.
I am currently searching for a terminal-based newsreader for
Linux; with a tinnish interface would be nice. It also
needs to be multiserver capable. I've done a bunch of web
searching, and I can find lots of instances of each requirement,
but haven't yet found one that appears to have them all.
I'm positive tin will handle multiple news servers, unfortunately I don't have
it installed at the moment but I do have my old ~/.tin directory still intact
and can plainly see different directories, one for each news server I've used.
I like terminal based newsreaders as well. (I use a home-brew
variety because I like "less" as a pager)
I'm no Linux wizard, obviously. I'm currently using tin, but
looking through the man page, and the tin.org site, I find
no discussion of multiserver, so I assume there's no way
to enable that capability with tin. I've found several
multiserver readers, but they're all GUI and/or WinOS.
Have a look at the command line options? Seems to me
the tin option was -g, but I could be wrong. It's been awhile.
Does such a thing exist? It would seem likely, but so far
I've had no luck.
I'm positive slrn can do multiple news servers too.
Any newsreader that allows you to specify configuration file(s)
via a command line switch is "multi-server" capable, but you may
have to create a different configuration for each server and
make sure you don't share .newsrc files.
It's usually just a matter of firing them up with different command line
arguments.
