First. I find that if I check "Enable scoring" in the 'Special' menu,
I can't retrieve any headers. I get a blank screen. If I uncheck
"Enable Scoring", then I can retrieve headers just fine; of course,
then I get the headers that I didn't want.
Third. When I edit the score.ini file, is it necessary to put a "|"
symbol after the last word or expression-to-match in the Subject line?
Probably the third issue explains the first one. | is an "or"
operator. If you put it last, you are matching on the empty string,
which is a substring of every string, so you will match every string.
If every string is matched on a killing rule, your screen will always
be blank. (But you should see the progress bar briefly as Xnews
downloads and discards the headers.)
I've skipped the second issue; I think reading scoring.txt would be
worthwhile for you. Luu gives a lot of examples. See
<http://xnews.remarqs.net/score.htm> for more resources about scoring.
